For Mary Ann Howell

Imagine the white tiger mystic started before I was born. This picture of Mohini a friend of my grandfathers gave to him in 1961, and he let me take it to school for show and tell in 1964 and told me I could keep it. The "White Tiger Roller Coaster" has been the most wonderful/magical up and down ride you can ever imagine. I am so proud and honored to have been allowed along for the ride.

The postcard picture of Mohini featured here was reproduced in the form of a painting of her, which was published with an article titled "The white tiger enigma" in Veterinary Medicine/Small Animal Clinician 1975 467-472. The artcle was co-authored by National Zoo director T.H. Reed. In the painting Mohini appears exactly as she does in the postcard, but she's in a jungle setting.

Believe it or not I had the identical postcard of Mohini and I took it to school for a class presentation in grade 7 along with a brochure from Jungle Larry's Safari, which had a picture of a liger cub on it. I also had a magazine from the Barcelona Zoo about their white gorilla. I heard about a genetic condition for the first time yesterday called Fragile X Syndrome. Sincerely Paul McC.
