He told me a story about how someone many years before had hired him to train and perform with a 12 horse liberty act. After he had perfected the act the employer told him that someone else was going to perform with the horses, probably someone who could be hired cheaper. Being angry about being treated this way Rudy devised a plan to sour the horses and ruin the act. Part of the act was a was the "merry mix up". The way he described it six horses traveling in pairs went around the ring in on direction and 6 in the other direction. When they met they would weave in and out and continue around until they met again and repeat. Rudy said that he fastened horses together in pairs and sent them around the ring all in the same direction. When he cued half the horses to reverse and do the "merry mix up" there was a huge wreck because the horses couldn't weave in and out being fastened in pairs. He said no else ever showed the act.J W Browningnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5853805336568551814.post-42575952720145036772019-06-06T17:56:20.084-05:002019-06-06T17:56:20.084-05:00Dear Wade: CNN just reported that the President of...Dear Wade: CNN just reported that the President of China has given a pair of giant pandas to Moscow Zoo. They just referred to them as "oryx". I started reviewing the history of the Arabian oryx back to when the "world herd" was in the Phoenix Zoo in the early 1960s consisting of just 9 individuals only 7 of which were fertile. One was shipped there from London Zoo and then Los Angeles Zoo acquired three from a private breeder in the Middle East. Then the species was declared extinct in the wild, and the SDWAP acquired some. I think that there are canned hunts of Arabian oryx in South Africa now. Those religious broadcasters had the strange idea that the leviathan mentioned in the Bible was a marine reptile and the behemoth was a sauropod dinosaur. I was reading an article on the internet about a species of bird, the Aldabra rail, which has repeatedly gone extinct and the re-evolved back into existence, a phenomena called "iterative evolution". The Aldabra rail is a flightless bird and from time to time their island home is under water, but the parent bird species can fly so it survives to give birth to its daughter species all over again. That reminds me of how the clouded leopard is regarded as a good candidate to become the next sabre tooth tiger. The article about iterative evolution appeared in the peer reviewed Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society last Wednesday. I was also reading about "directed panspermia", the theory that aliens deliberately seeded life on earth. I was cutting through the back alleyways and saw Tanya at the rear of the ABC, they (TRAINERS/KEEPERS?) were taking her down to the beach to walk on the sands and swim in the sea. I came from a poor background and could not afford to see the acts or celebs and was ecstatic as a young lad would be. That would have been around 1967/8 as i left Blackpool in 1968 Regards. I don't even remember leaving that comment, much less what specifically was being said about the gay penguins. There was a story in the news just recently about an albino penguin born at Gdansk Zoo. I also remember a story about two octopuses which were seen mating, and scientists were astounded by this because they belonged to completely different species and were both male. They recently discovered a new species of killer whale off the coast of South America, and a huge sunfish washed up dead on a beach of California. It as of such a rare species that only a handful of specimens have been collected, most by the same woman, from off the coast of South America, but the first specimen ever seen came from the Netherlands, and then no more were seen for maybe 200 years. Apparently this species has extended its range further north because of climate change. It's amazing how oceanic sunfish swim because they have no tails and they uses two fins to propel themselves just like sea turtles use their flippers. I have heard oceanic sunfish described as a species designed by a committee, along with giraffes. The human eye is incredibly poorly designed also. Anyway I'm sorry it took me nine years to answer you. He actually had a lot of offspring. The gorilla studbook is kept at Munster Zoo in Germany. I was actually writing to ask whether you heard about these I think three European zoos which are reintroducing eastern black rhinos to Rwanda.(?) The Western Plains Zoo in Australia wanted to introduce black rhinos to the wild in Australia. I also contacted the Gorillas Galore website about that gorilla. That reminds me the International Tiger Studbook shows that two tigers at New Delhi Zoo, a white tigress named Homa and an orange wild caught tiger named Moti II had a litter of four white cubs back in the 1960s, but this can't be accurate. There's no way. K.S. Sankhala talked about both those tigers, Homa and Moti II, in his book Tiger!, and their offspring, but never mentioned any white cubs from them. They had an orange son named Poona and he (K.S. Sankhala) thought that Poona was the same tiger named Poona who went to live at the Chicago Brookfield Zoo, but that tiger named Poona was a North Indo-Chinese tiger born at Seattle Zoo. He went on breeding loan to the National Zoo in 1973 to be bred to Mohini Rewa, Rewati, and Kesari; and he and Kesari had a litter of 6 tiger cubs including Marvina. Sarah Hartwell and I have been exchanging e-mails with the Tiger studbook keeper about this litter. The White Tiger Studbook does not include the same information. The studbook keeper says New Delhi Zoo never sends them any info. Take care.
