The Animal Right's Movement Steamrolled Ahead, Because Uninformed Folks Jumped On A Bandwagon

Wade, With all due respect to your support for "to the death" Bullfighting, the vast majority of people in this country do not approve of it. If this guy wants to dress like that and pose like that, he should learn to do a wire act!

'No high wire artist's need to quit dressing and posing like a Torero. It was his costume and style centuries before anybody walked on a wire. It's just such a macho look that circus couldn't resist copying it. Fact. The vast majority of people in this country that do not approve of bullfighting(the only kind, and I won't waste a breath on bloodless, unless you also want to de claw cage animals) also don't approve of elephants or animals in the circus. It's one and the same. Fact. So let's do what those people want and shut it all down. If a gun is held to me head, and I am asked which is a better life, a 15 min. bullfight to the death, or a lifetime of poor husbandry in captivity, hands down, no doubt about, 15 min. bullfight to the death. It's over, not endured day in day out for the rest of their miserable life. If you want to speed up the demise of elephants and other animals in the circus, go ahead and support "anti anything animals", which includes bull fighting, humane slaughter, dog fighting, rodeo, etc. etc. Don't say you weren't warned. Fact. I don't like dog fighting, which is why I never mention it. It is not unlike an animal enduring a life time of poor husbandry, day in and day out. Not 15 min. and over forever. Because I don't approve of it I won't discuss it. But I sure don't have the arrogance to tell another person that they can't fight dogs. It's not my world, it's ours.'

Juan Jose Padilla returns to bullring 5 months after horrific goring ...

Plight of abused dog found in garbage bag with eyes gouged out opens hearts (and wallets) as 'hard-luck hound' sparks string of good deeds

'This dog received $17,000.00 in donation's for it's care, as well as a $1000.00 from peta to find the perpetrator.  Peta, by the way, has a $37.4 million operating budget and last year killed over 95% of the adoptable dog's and cat's in it's care year.    More than 4 million animals are killed annually at shelters across the nation, citing unsustainable cost of caring for unwanted creatures and space limitations.'

When a person is in a very hazardous physical situation and it is dangerous and they get hurt with a lifelong ailment such as his loss of an eye. It is quite obvious that continuing on being soewhat incapacitated would endanger his life even more should with that realization not continue on. Certainly he should not be applauded for doing just that. I recall during the years of my vocation being around some dangerous tough elephants and being still a young adult was aware but it didn't get to me. Yes I was knocked down, hit, etc.So when I went to Atayde in Mex. and saw that I would be handling two tough elephants all part of a herd of sevben I then became aware of a dangerous situation, so I took the "bull by the horns" and forced my self on them and was successful for the seven some months I had agreed to do training for the circus there. But being aware and frankly a little scared I psyched myself up each day and continued on, but when this tour of duty ended and I came home and reviewing news during these times that friend and great elephant man Rex Williams had been downed by an elephant with serious lifelong injuries also Shannon Woodcock had been downed by an elephant I had trained and other situations concerning similar situations I made up my mind that I was a coward so to speak and would continue on training domestic animals but NO elephants, period. I continued on until retirement and am so happy that I did quit that dangerous profession and a even here to tell about it.By all means this matador should give it up and rest on his laurels. He is fortunate to only lose an eye. Why you and others would applaud him is beyond me. In fact watch your ass down there Wade. When I was in a similar situation with Atayde I realized that I could not speak the language, I had no help that could "back me up in case of trouble" and in Mex. I was not covered by "workmans comp" etc. I hope you have those things covered. I am aware that all Cuneo's employees are b"independent contractors" leaving him "off the hook" all those years. What a farce. So, only my thoughts and yes I am here to trllabout it.
'Do you know how may people world wide claimed Juan Jose Padilla deserved what he got?????  Yet, the dog got $17,000 in donations?????   If that is the case are we right in assuming that Rex, and Shannon got what they deserved?  Rex continued working with elephants after the above stated incident, why should Juan Jose Padilla not continue fighting bulls and being applauded for it?'

From a web site opposed to rodeo's.  Yes, folks know no boundaries in reaching "their" agenda

What well known circus producer tried to buy a piece of the PBR Tour last year, but was declined?

from Jim Stockley: I'm with you on the bullfight Wade, and on your headline about 'uniformed folk jumping on the bandwagon' - I find myself explaining sustainable use/conservation of wildlife more often than I'd like to, to people who should know better since they make their living from training and/or presenting (and making youtube videos about!) endangered species.

Here is an excellent, thought-provoking article by Alexander Fiske-Harrison. He is an Englishman who went to Spain to study the bullfight and became friends with Juan Jose Padilla. He makes some interesting points on the morality thereof ....

Jim,
It seems to be an incredible book, and I am attempting to get it online. FYI, Englishmen seem to go to Spain to study bullfighting, and write about it. American's, like Robert Fulton of Philadelphia went to Spain and actually fought the bull's, and became a respected matador, not sat in the seat's and watched. I'm just saying....... :)

from: Jim Stockley - granted, Fiske-Harrison didn't become a full time matador, but he did train with Juan José Padilla and Eduardo Dávila Miura ....... to later fight and kill a bull. Cayetano Rivera Ordóñez wrote AF-H an email "Excellent!! You know that your book is among the few books on bullfighting that I have in my house!" .... so it may be worth a read? My copy arrives next week ;-)

Jim,
Cayetano must not be much of a reader. I have 68 books on bullfighting in my library, and am currently hauling 9 more around Mexico in my suitcase. :) But, I suppose if your father was Paquirri, how much more would you need to learn about bullfighting. I don't suppose Mark Gebel has many "how to" animal training books.
