Wade,
The little girl riding with Senator Thurmond is his daughter Nancy Moore Thurmond. She was run over and killed by a drunk driver in April of 1993 while a student at The University of South Carolina here in Columbia. This picture looks like it may have been taken at the old Carolina Coliseum here, but I may be wrong. The building is still there but the circus now uses the Colonial Life Arena. I remember seeing many a great RBBB show in the old coliseum, and was probably where I first saw you perform.

Hal,
I remember the Carolina Coliseum well, as South Carolina was one of the prettiest state's we showed in. Weren't the animals kept across the street in another building?

Wade,
I don`t remember the animals being in another building across the street. The shows tents were set up in a parking lot on the other side of Park St. that ran behind the coliseum. The stock & flat cars for many years were unloaded and loaded about 3 blocks away, and still are, on Assembly St at the old Southern Railroad Station. The station is now a nice restaurant called Califonnia Dreaming, it`s a beautiful old building. Some years the flats were unloaded at different spots and the coaches were also placed at different locations. A lot of times it depended on what railroad brought the train in, either Southern or Seaboard, now Norfolk Southern & CSX. For a couple of years the whole train was unloaded & loaded across the Congaree River in Cayce, in the Seaboard yard about 4 miles from the arena. Got a lot of pictures thru the years of the trains in Columbia , I`ll send some to you.

Hal,
I recalled the animals being away from the building, so a the animal tent is a likelihood. Pictures would be appreciated. Didn't GGW have a great friend who was from Colombia?

Yeah Wade, Gunther met some folks that live near where the coaches were spotted and they became close friends. His daughter ended up living with them for a while and I think went to school here. I can`t remember their names, but I have it all written down and a local newspaper artical about it, I`ll look all this up and send it to you, give me a few days.

Hal,
I am thinking the gentleman was either a dentist or restaurant owner, and yes Tina stayed with them for a time.
