A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

If my memory is correct the building on the right of the first photo is part of the railroad station. The Zoo entrance is that humble small gate. Once inside there are a few locations were you can see apartment buildings as the background to rhinos, etc. (As big as it is, there are views like that at the Bronx Zoo too.) It's a little reminder that you're right in the middle of the city.
Thanks for these photos. I visited Antwerp in 1989. The pictures make me want to return.
Jim,
I have a few more coming manana, sorry, tomorrow. I have never had the pleasure of viewing this wonderful, old historic zoo but I have admired it from afar in photo's for a long long time. Part of the uniqueness of an Antwerp or a Bronx is the fact that you know you haven't left the city, as deep as they try to immerse you in "nature." A North Carolina zoo is beautiful yes, but it lacks the historic charm of Bronx.
