San Deigo Zoo Animal Show 1960

Does anyone know who the red haired lady is with the tiger? A hint is now she is an elephant expert.

Pat Derby. I think they also did their show at the Cincinnati Zoo. (The only thing I remember about her book is that refered to Ed Maruska as cute.)

The scene of the crime is the Wegeforth Bowl. Looks like Bennie Kirkbride was still doing the sea lion show considering the diving platform and all.

Jim,
That's correct, it's "Princess Packyderm." I wondered at what obviously were sealion props. That's for the insight. As for the the comment about Ed Maruska, considering she and Barker are teamed up, I just think "rough trade" is how she rolls? Reformed smokers, born again Christians, and failed animal trainers running a sanctuary. What miserable bastards they are. :)

An architectural bonus comment: Notice the ramp(s) that lead up to the stage and the water moat in front. The original Wegeforth Bowl just had a flat stage and the sea lion act was a "dry" act. Bennie had a riding sea lion act (3 sea lions and 2 ponies) much like his mentor Capt. Harold Winston. To add a moat, which was only 3' deep, they raised the stage. I think the change might have been made around 1960.

Jim,
Was the original Wegeforth Bowl round, or did it always have that Flintstone looking backdrop behind it?
