A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Wade,think it's about escaped lions.It say's:
The 6 victims of the Leipzig lionhunt on October 19 1913 and the caretakers of the zoo ,who
catched the other 2 lions in a cratetrap.Don't know if the last word is a correct one though, but hope you know what I mean.
Greetings,
Rob.
Rob,
Thank you. Yes, I do know what you mean. I wonder if they escaped from the zoo, or from a circus or something and the zoo was called in to assist. Does anyone across the big pond know of, or recall hearing/reading about a large group of lions running loose in Leipzig in 1913?
Wade
Wade, this is what I could find.
Seems it had a great impact on
the Leizig history. In short this is what happened.
After the last show in Leipzig of
Circus Barum,2 cagewagons, one with bears and one with 10 lions, pulled by horses, headed in the mist to the trainstation. When the drivers came along a pub, they decided to visit it.They left the cagewagons unattended. After some time the horses of the last wagon, containing the bears got restless and thereby smashing the backwall of the lioncagewagon, which
escaped.A policeman who came after the noise was hunting the lions together with 80 other policemen.
The shot lions were taken to the zoo and diplayed. The zoo had a very good week, because a lot of folk wanted to see the dead animals.
Rob
Rob,
Great stuff, it's much appreciated. I found it had to believe that the animal grooms would stop at a pub and ignore the animals. That must have been in the old days, because something like that would never, ever happen today. :)
