This building was home to elephants at Wellington Zoo up until 1983 when Kamala, the Zoo’s last elephant died. We now recognise that Wellington Zoo is far too small and hilly to house elephants, so Kamala was never replaced. The Historic Elephant House is now home to various bats and reptiles.
