Dennis,
Didn't Krone take some heat from the Equine people about the size of the stalls, before they changed them?

I am no fan of these circus "box stalls" either in Europe or here in USA. They are only to pacify. First off they are too small to be of any good and the horses can climb the sides to get at adjoining horses. They do not allow for any exercise anymore than a standing stall and are much more difficult to keep clean. I have seen the time it takes to "pick" ewach stall and having to tie the horse up or remove him. A standing stall would be better seviced in half the time. Large box stalls in stables are necessary as alot of horses are not properly exercised. However a horse in a circus or related situation gets worked almost dailey and of course the Ringling animal walk that is great therapy for all hoofed stock. I can not believe that Ringling hauls its exotic stock overland. Last but not least the Royal Lippazoners in Vienna had always been shown as stabled in nice standing stalls and the Budweiswe Clydes as well. I believe animal rights idiots brought that about. The change I mean.

When they added on to the Terrel Jacobs place in Bunker Hill my Dad [horse trainer at that time for Cole Beos. circus that was moving in] had two nice large hospital box stalls in the stable area and all other horses were on a circus "picket line" just like the Cavalrys of days gone by. Yes, at my home in the off season I had Box Stalls for just the reasons mentioned above and believe they were 14 by 14. What are the demensions of the traveling circus "box stalls". When I was with Ringling we never had any "Box stalls".

The stalls with attached paddock is very nice but sure a pain in the ass to whoever has to handle them. What alot of extra labour for nothing.

Johnny,
I don't think it is for nothing. What can it hurt? It is like putting logs/toys, limbs and tree branches in a tiger/lions cage. Doesn't help, doesn't hurt. Just makes folks feel like they are doing the right thing, and are more caring. They feel that way because it is for folks that don't know any better, and they tell them how wonderful they are. BS in a big bag.
