To encourage participation, anonymous comments are excepted, as the judges in Monte Carlo are not required to comment on how they have chosen a winner. That way criticism may also be more forth coming as well as compliments. As the only real criteria that we know of from Monte Carlo is creativity, difficulty, and costuming lets use those. Use 5 as the best score in each of the 3 criteria and l as the lowest. Some people are animal people, some aren't, some are more knowledgeable then others on the arts, and some may just be familiar with circus as a whole. Remember it doesn't matter if you know them, or they are your friend, and you can't be affected by the crowd, or reactions or not from the Royal Family

Anonymous Judge # 1,
Florian Richter
creativity 4
difficulty 3
costuming 5
Carlos Svarde
creativity 3
difficulty 4
costuming 2
First act:
creativity 2
difficulty 3
costuming 3
Second act:
creativity 4
difficulty 4
costuming 3
I'll go with the second act just because the costume isn't white. I thought white was required at MC
Richter
Creative 3
Difficulty 2
Costume 3
Svarde
Creative 3
Difficult 3
Costume 3
If 1 is low and 5 is high then 3 means average to me.
Liberty Act #1
creativity:1
difficulty:1
costuming :1
Liberty Act #2
creativity:1
difficulty: 1
costuming : 1
If I was judging this I like Jody would start at 3 as average, and add or subtract.
I would rate the first Florian Richter thus:
Creativity 5
Difficulty 4
Costuming 5
For a total of 14. Creativity in the Victorian masquerade ball theme, very different from a standard liberty act presentation.
Difficulty in the serpentine done in synchronization with the waltzing couples, cleanliness in the horse waltz, interaction with the people in the ring, waltzing with partner and sweeping the horses out in synchronization, dancing with the horse in tempo for the hind leg pivot.
Costuming in everything being grey or silver including the the horses, the harness the human costumes for pure class.
One of the most beautiful liberty act presentations I have ever seen. Totally different, very artistic, themed, beautiful costuming, all animal behaviors clean and calm. For those above "complete" reason, better then the Knie presentation with numbers of animals. This one was much more difficult to present. Beautiful meshing of humans and animals in a choreographed presentation. Completely transforms me into the day's of Beethoven and Mozart and Vienna opulence. I don't know what year this was, but I am sorry I could not have seen it live.
I would rate the second Carlos Svarde thus:
Creativity 3
Difficulty 2
Costuming 3
For a total of 8. Creativity is pretty standard liberty fare.
Difficulty in it wasn't. Standard split reverse fell apart, horse's appeared frantic, my concern something falling and getting hurt.
Costuming in that it is once again done to death Spanish costuming with nothing spectacular or improved on.
With 9 being average(3+3+3)

Didn't I vote on this post.?..I couldn't disagree with you more Wade..The first act was better than the second as far as the performance of the animals..But all those people in the ring, I found confusing..Were they presenting an act, or trying out for dancing with the stars??..The costumes reminded me of something Bob Atterbury made us wear in spec on the Texas Dates..LOL..I kept praying that they would bring out the guillotine....
Margaret,
You did not look at it as a whole picture, and the theater/arts that Circus has it's roots in. And no, Bob Atterberrys 2 dollar Salvation Army costumes and paper machete floats aren't even on the same planet as these. Might be why the Texas dates are no more?
Wade
JUDGING IS NOW CLOSED FOR THE ELEPHANT ACT.
Keep in mind that like Circus performers, we judged on our knowledge of what we were seeing, keeping in mind the honor system of not choosing friends or associates.
Florian Richter 55
Carlos Svarde 40
Sorry Wade.
I never cared for the way they dressed in that era. And so, yes I can appreciate what it took to make the costumes but my personal dislike of that time came out in my judging....So, once again you may be able to judge standard on some aspects but personal likes/dislikes also comes into play when judging..
Unlike the tiger act where I felt the people may make the training more difficult I felt the opposite here. It's not like the horses could escape very far from any humans...More like working in a small pen verses a large one..Made me drop the difficulty level because of it..
I'd take Knie's Carousel over this one anyday...........
Jody,
It doesn't matter what you like or dislike, you can't pick the grey horse because you like that color better then chestnut. That only comes into play with a tie of equal standards.
