A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Wade,
What is attatched to the gorilla's neck and arm?

Different shows. Belly/Wien toured Austria a couple of years ago and is now traveling in the Netherlands. The pictures shown are of Circus Belly which is traveling mainly through Northern Germany. From what I heard it’s an above average mud show operated by the Köhler family with good animal acts and attention to detail. More information under http://www.circus-belly.de/
Amy,
That's not a Gorilla, it is a Chimpanzee, and that is a collar and leash.

Marco,
Thank you for the information. Although not quite as confusing as Knie, Charles Knie, Charles, and Louis Knie, it is close. LOL What is "attention to detail?" Is there a detail that doesn't warrant attention?
Wade
Wade,
Excuse my ignorance, I first wrote chimp, but for some reason a nagging voice in my brain said Gorilla. LOL

With "attention to detail" I meant that they take very good care of their equipment, make sure everything is painted neat and clean, the entrance looks nice. Just little details that would not be necessary but enhance the overall circus experience for the audience. It's basically a family show that tries to make nice and good circus with their limited resources. There are over 300!!! traveling circus shows in Germany in various sizes and qualities. Despite its relative small size this show knows how to entertain its audience. Honest circus show at a fair cost.
Marco,
As long as the "show" doesn't take a back seat to the paint job. If you put sugar on shit, it is still shit it just tastes like a donut. I have known of a wild animal act that folks agreed was terrible, but she kept the equipment washed and painted, as if that were the priority. It is agreed here in America, if at the end of your career as an airealist you are remembered as a great welder, you failed your profession. Often times it is a substitute for quality performance. Many have been able to balance the two, attention to detail and performance for something special. Some use "attention to detail" as a cover to no skill. And yes, there have been and are some phenomenal shows in Germany, but the dog's are getting more prevalent unfortunately. If the public would not accept it, it would go back to greatness or go away.
