Arabians can do anything. Western, English, Reining, Cutting, Dressage, etc. In the old days they used to often times force them to do it as well as Saddlebreds, Quarter horses, etc., breed especially bred to excel at a number of disciplines, and they caused a physical problems for a lot of great horses. Combined with other breeds, 1/2 Arabs excel, and look gorgeous doing it. I'll probably be dead before a pure Arabian wins an open reining futurity, but the half breeds are tearing the sport up. Penelope Krewse is a nice example of a National Show Horse. The biggest and best one's have an Arabian sire, and a Saddlebred dam. To go back to the discussion of a few day's ago about pressure, and not going to the spurs right a way, and using spur pressure as a last resort, note Bobby's thighs on Penelope in a effort to stand her up straight around the corner, and not lean, as I noted the horse Illusion, who by the way is a great, great grandson of Bask doing when he is ridden bridleless by the Indian Princess at Lake Geneva Dancing Horse Theatre.

Haven't seen Bobby in years. Good to hear he's doing so well. He and Ginger Tadin sure made a good working team when he was in Illinois. I felt bad for Ginger when he picked up and left but obviously it was the right move for him. Is Ginger still alive?
Wade, you will get a kick out of this....
In my late teens and with way too much alcohol in my system I tried to hit on Bobby. There's one of my mistakes that I regret. I knew I didn't have a ghost of a chance, even back then.... but I always liked a challenge. LOL
I agree the Arabs can do it all but it's still hard for a purebred to compete against the Quarter Horses in the reining. Silver Tide was one Arab that did pretty good in the NRHA but now the NRHA horses have gotten even tougher. And as long as the NRHA open futurity sticks with 3 year olds, I don't know if we will see a Purebred Arab ever win it. The 4 & 5 year old events are possible. Not as much prize money as the futurity but still prestigous.
But, if we play politics and was able to get one of the big boys riding one...........anything is possible.......
odyja,
Bobby cut quite a figure when he sported the mustache, I believe back in the early 80's. Alcohol or not, I believe a lot of people, male and female, took a shot.
Wade
Jody,
Reining horses, working cow horses, cutting horses have become so skilled, it is unbelievable sometimes. Some of the top cutting horses, just amaze me that something doesn't snap.
