Hello,
This is a response blog where people may comment un-censored on photos and comments made on other circus blogs. The only moderation that will be made is that no one will be allowed to post anonymously. The only exception that will be made to this one rule is if a private email is sent to one of the blog moderators explaining you would be in danger of losing your job, or other harsh scenario, by posting said comment...
Please enjoy, and the lies to a minimum and the bullshit to a maximum. Wade is lurking around the corner to rebut.

Picture #61 RBBB in Chicago 1947
Censored comment:
Buckles,
This is the diciest spec I have ever seen. Look at the dent on the castle. The often argued statement that Irvin Feld saved Ringling seems more valid, when you look at pictures like this. I just got through looking at the 69 GGW Premiere show that Dominic Yodice was kind enough to send me, and when I compare it to the show I first saw in 1974 Irvins impact is
is undeniable.
The costumes for the elephant crew didn't look that cheap and bad until the 1992 edition when Axel and the boys were made to wear pink dyed Osh-Gosh-Be-Gosh work shirts for the Rock and Roll show, 8 years after Irvin's demise.

Here's the deal...And I could be wrong...I mostly am. The folks who love the idea of RBBB in the tent show days and the specs then are mostly old enough to remember them lovely. I look at a "Mother Goose" float and wonder why the kids weren't running for the exits? Even watching the Greatest Show On Earth movie the scenes of the spec include a whole lot of stuff that looks drab to me, but I imagine it's because I didn't grow up with it.
Ben,
That's a great thought. When I was a child I could build twig corrals, and sod barns out in the dirt, for my plastic horses that I thought were pretty impressive. I am not going to convince my young son that "my horse ranch" was prettier then the latest Xbox game, or the newest Ipod. My 6 year old eyes may not want to accept the reality, but my 54 year old eyes have to.
