Astley's Legacy - Animal Circus Facts and Fiction
This is the pseudonym for a collection of parties interested in the future of animal circuses. Rouster is made up of academics, animal welfarists, circus people and zoo enthusiasts. We support responsible animal husbandry, care and behaviour enrichment in line with science and animal welfare. This means that we often end up discussing the antithesis of this - animal cruelty and animal rights fanaticism. Our stance is apolitical. Our only politics is concerned with the defence of a culture that is no more wrong in the eyes of a rational society than any other mainstream animal institution. Our goal is justice and strict transparent regulation for animal circuses the world over.
'Yesterday I posted a private email from a circus fan and animal lover, in which the insightful question: "As you know by know.. I LOVE circuses.. and elephants in particular. After viewing these slides several time even I am beginning to feel this is "inhumane" treatment of an animal. BUT... should I ask.. IS.. "compassionate restraint for profit" on any animal justified???????" was asked. I attempted to address his concern's as best I could. I will also suggest that he, and any other individual truly interested in fact's on the issue of "animal welfare" educated themselves with the blog, Astley's Legacy which I have posted above and will link shortly to Relevant Stop's on the Information Highway on the right side of this blog. Differing from a number of site's and individual companies these folks have come to realize you can't out muscle thugs like animal rights. But you can expose them for what they are if you do it intellectually. No name calling, no sugar coated press release's. Just factual expose of their flawed agenda. Anybody truly concerned with animal welfare, who truly appreciates and love's animals for an animals sake will do themselves a great favor by reading the intelligently written, factual posting's on Astley's Legacy, a site sorely needed, a long time coming and I for one am grateful it's day has arrived.'
