A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

are these Rix bears?
Thomas,
I think they were part of the Court mixed act with the lions and tigers.

How was this designed, Wade? It looks like the permiter inside the first barred fence has animals, and then individual stalls inside for single animals a piece divded by steel and fencing. Can you provide any insight?
Radar,
I don't know. We will just have to wait for Richard Reynold's go get here and school us on how it was constructed. But you can bet it had nothing to do with "creature comfort."

Howard Tibbals told me that the bars for this bear cage were made from the truss rods under the old wooden flat cars which were discontinued after the 1928 season. So happened that I made my first visit to the ‘Sota quarters this same spring - -1953.
