A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Prior to Children's Zoos the area with a few zoo baby animals and some petable goats would be called a Nursery Village or like title. The San Diego Children's Zoo was quite progressive for its time. A few of the original exhibits still exist with more appropriate animals than baby elephants and great apes.
Another example of how zoos have improved. However as one who began as a volunteer keeper at Lincoln Park Chicago in 1960, I received a lot of experience with some special animals.
Jim,
While nothing is perfect, as long as you keep striving for that ideal you are making "progress." There are thousands of examples of how zoo's have improved, and are improving daily. The Childrens Zoo quit being a good idea when traveling petting zoos/circus started using tiger and lion cubs to take pictures, and then wondered what they were going to do with them when they turned 3 months old.
