Do you think this "log chain" is strong enough?

Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.
Maybe in the name of economizing they had the chain, and are just going to let the tiger grow into it.

Wade, I think a rope would have been sufficient, like the one George Pages used in the picture posted on Tuesday November 4. I certainly see no need for a chain this heavy for such a young tiger.

Mary Ann,
No way do you want to use a rope. They will chew on it eventually weakening it. I have 7 sizes of chain hanging on hooks, from a small "store bought" toy dog leash(with the leather hand hold cut off because they will chew on that also and a hand ring added), to about the size you see here(although this chain is no good, as it will kink/twist and I use what's called passing link chain) or what Martin is putting on Tonga in the photo posted yesterday for a mature feline. They are kept close and tight in a heel at all times. If I feel they are an exceptional individual, and I can put them on the "honor system" until they are about 4 years old, I will attach a nylon lunge line to five foot of "4 year old" chain, so they don't chew on the lunge and let them romp a bit. At the age and size of 8 or 9, I have found that they are, with exceptions, no longer "honorable" and I keep them close and tight in a heel at all times. All snaps from the baby "store bought" leashes are replace as they are not adequate, and all snaps are checked once a week whether the chains are used or not. When the house is on fire, I don't want to find out that the fire extinguisher is not in good working order.
