Vintage Berlin Zoo

Next to the periodic washing of the primate cages, by a "timed flush" that Jim Alexander pointed out was initiated by the Milwaukee and other zoo's, this exhibit feature to keep the elephants out of the moat and away from the public is probably one of the worst design features in the history of zoo animal husbandry.

Wade, I guess the hot wires of today aren't as bad as these spikes, but someday they too will probably be considered primitive and barbaric.

Mary Ann,
The only thing really wrong with hot wire is their appearance, and the human perception of electrocution. They are not much more then a "pin prick" when you least expect it, hence the usefulness.
