Black Pool Tower--What a grand. grand building for the showcasing of the Circus Arts. Can you give us some history, John Cooper

Over 100 years old. Purpose-built between the legs of Blackpool Tower. Still going strong between May and early November, plus a Christmas season. But no animals these days, thanks to the policy of the owners. That said, the smell of animals remains in the paintwork despite several layers. I love the place, although I haven't been there for ages.

John,
I have always heard the the conditions for the animals were quite bad, kept in a dark cold basement, as it had originally not been built with animals in mind.

I have known circus buildings with better conditions for the animals!

John,
I had understood that the stabling for the animals was one of the biggest issues. How does the water fountain work. Does the floor slide open, or does it come out of the ring curb?

The water is always under the ring surface, which drops downwards. I have no idea of the technicalities, but (as I have said) they differ from those at Great Yarmouth Hippodrome.
