A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Wade, I believe that this is the gentleman that you said Frederic Elelstein is fortunate to be the protege of. Can you tell us a little more about him?
Mary Ann
Mary Ann,
Not young Edelstein. He has a boat load of talent in his corner. This is Gerd Semonit owner of Circus Barum whom helped/advised Alex Lacey with the remarkable transformation of his present act the 4 years Alex was on his show.
I have never had the honor, but I have studied miles of video on Mr. Semonit, bears, lions, tigers, and leopards, eventually utilizing/adapting the longer whip I noted he so effectively used in dealing with large groups of felines. I asked GGW one time who he thought was the best, and he without thinking said 4 names, Charly Baumann, Gerd Semonit, and that was good enough for me. The other two are mine, and not for public consumption as it will piss some people off. I'll see what I can find about Mr. Semonit, but as he is retired and no longer performing, video really is what does him justice. I have given all of mine away, hoping others would pick up on what I had seen.
Wade
