'Does anyone have any idea what "confiscate for repairs" means?  Reparation possibly,
measures taken by the state to redress gross and systematic violations of human rights law or humanitarian law?  Does anyone know any more about this incident?  The props in the acts look familiar, were they confiscated also and who else used the props in later years?  Clubb, Crebbers, are you there?'

Wade,
these acts where all cofiscated right at the end of WWII by the checz goverment, all the acts where owned by German Circusses, something similar happend with the 5 elephants that came to ringling with Hugo Schmidt, only they where confiscated by the Danisch goverment at the end of WWII. But I think Jim Clubb can get you more info about this.

Benes was a trainer know to us in the UK, as he worked for Sir Robert Fossett's, presenting their tiger act. Bailey Fossett said he had a major drink problem. He previously worked for Circus Knie and helped train and later present their nine polar bears and three Himalayan black bears. The trainer, Scherif, that is mentioned, came to Robert Brothers in 1952 to take over a group of lions and was killed at their winter quarters while practising them. A male lion caught his claws in a woolen sweater and he fell on the floor by the cage door. The lion was only about 18 months old, but it killed him before they could get him out. Tommy Roberts Snr. went in, but he told me it was already too late. He is buried in the churchyard at Polebrook and I often look at his grave if we attend a funeral there.
