Ghost Zoo--Ampthill House and Wingfield Zoo

Ampthill House

Sir Anthony Wingfield, left

East Anglian Film Archive: Ampthill Zoo, 1912

In the 1920's the zoo was scaled down, and the animals transferred to Whipsnade Zoo. Decorative wing plumes of the ostriches were used for boas and fans; and ostrich eggs were used for cooking. Wingfield died in 1952, and a year later Ampthill House was demolished and an estate built on the site.

'Does anyone have anymore information about this zoo?'
