I understand the principle of this "squeeze cage," with the animal not having to be sedated much, but it sure seems cumbersome to move from place to place.

This looks like it might be more traumatic than sedation. Kind of like being placed into a closed MRI without any explanation for what was happening. However, I know that the anesthesia can have serious consequences for wild animals.
