Ringling Bros. Circus--Mexico City

In speaking to the future, I have posted these clips so you could see what a stereotyped fat, middle aged housewife in sneakers didn't look like.   I have been in Mexico almost a year and have seen one small protest consisting of 6 people.  But, then again, I am not with Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey.    Look at the video's below.  I wonder what the protesters problem is?

Zych,
Does that really matter, if they are getting the message out there? The other day on facebook a "show man" was instructing folks on how to sent a letter to a politician objecting to an upcoming animal issue vote, and how to check a certain box which would post them threw 12 times instead of one time, making it seem more folks were against the upcoming issue, then actually were. His "reasoning?" The animal rights people do it all the time. It isn't making sense any more, Jim.
Watch all the clips below this one that I posted. If you were "Joe Public" knowing nothing about animal training, but digging animal's none the less, see anything you may find objectionable? Look at the clips through "Joe Public" animal lover, knows nothing about animal training eyes. Take a look again, and don't look through Jim Zajicek nitwit elephant trainer/side show impresario/lot's of friends who are horse and cat trainers eyes.

Be safe, Pal

I have worked in Mexico on Circuses and never saw AR Folks..You are there now and have seen 6?...The only reason they are showing up is because it is RBBB and most likely are being paid By AR groups in the USA...When I showed Puerto Rico W/ Gyp and Freinds Puerto Ricans were paid and flown in from NY to protest the Elephants by PETA, the Crazy thing is while they were at the Front of the Building protesting Gyp, at the back of the Building the locals were holding Cock Fights... I'll watch the videos now...

OK I watched them..

Other than a annoying Bald Headed Hispanic Guy yelling in broken Englis and Spainish, I really do not see anything to Protest unless one is just dead set against Animals in the Circus...

Zych,
"Gyp???" What make's you think they were protesting Gyp? Why is is always Gyp's fault? Maybe, they were protesting Jackie or Ronnie? I know they weren't protesting Joy. What's to protest? An elephant with a flake of hay shoved up her tusk, in a effort to have some, while her "buddy" on the picket line is pulling her eye lashes to make her drop it. You don't protest that, you get it counseling.
They are getting to the cock fighting. It is illegal in a number of Mexican states at the moment. Nothing to do with animal rights. The folks in those area's just didn't like being "stereotyped" because of the activity, and being dependent on the tourist trade, outlawed the age old activity. But it is still legal to eat them in all states.

What was that word you used after watching the tapes? "Yelling?" What do most folks associate "yelling" with? I really don't think they are dead set against animals in the circus. I think they are dead set against animals being abused and so am I. I don't think bull fighting is abusive, nor do I think cock fighting is abusive. The end result is a fast 15 min. death to a food product. I do consider whipping a dog, horse, tiger, or elephant tied to a tree or in a cage for 15 min. a day for the rest of his retched life abusive.

Mr. Burck, it's been a while since I started reading your blog, and I really like the way you present animal training, having no shame to show us a bit more about what goes on backstage. We can have a glimpse on the other side of the story.
I live in Mexico City, and assisted to the RBBB show on Saturday June 2. I don't know much about circuses, and much less about animal training, but me and my family had a great time.
It is true, there are not many AR groups over here, and the few there are suffer what most Mexican enterprises do: lack of organization. We Mexicans, I must admit, are very unstructured and a bit short-sighted regarding many things. But I guess this not only happens in my country.
"I wonder what the protesters problem is?" I'll tell you: lack of understanding on how to convey a message (in the second video that is), and a lack of a better venue to show off their body painting skills. ;)

Thank you,

KING OF AQUARIA sez: "THE SHOW MUST GO ON! A recent ruling by Judge Ken Welsch that Sea World trainers can no longer swim with killer whales has animal handlers concerned. But the ruling is specific to Sea World and to say it could shut down the gator wrestlers at Gatorland or the tiger trainers at Ringling Bros. & Barnum & Bailey and other shows is a stretch, according to Orlando Sentinel writer Beth Kassab in a June 7, 2012 article.

Even though audiences will no longer see the thrilling 'Rocket Ride' or trainers playing 'patty-cake' with the orcas in Shamu Stadium we will still ooh and aah at the grace. agility and sheer size of the largest members of the dolphin family.

I have fond memories of taking my 'flavor of the month' (girlfriends) to Sea World back in the 70's and watching the look of surprise on their faces as they were 'randomly picked' from the audience to receive a kiss from Shamu. Now that tradition is gone forever, too.

Aldo,
Welcome back, and you comment is appreciated. I have been in Mexico now for close to 10 months, and I love Mexico very much. I fact I hope to live here some day. That you should say "unstructured" and "unorganized" struck me, as I have observed a similar thing, but from what I have seen there are plenty of people willing to work and do just about anything, but there are no boss's,jefe's, or leaders. The current show I am with was ruing the shortage of "Apaches" as they are called in Mexico or "working men" in the States. I told them, "you have plenty of Apaches, you just don't have any boss's running them.
But, there is a different "awareness" of animals then there was when I first came here in 1975 to work. But I have also observed a great Mexican characteristic, which is one of the reason's I enjoy the country so, and that is a "live and let live" attitude. I have never, ever seen someone tell someone else what they must or must not do. Never. It's amazing to see 4 or 5 shoe venders set up their "tent" in front of a shoe store, or a half dozen taco venders set up in front of a Vip's and not a word from the shoe store owner or the owner of Vip's. If somebody want's to whack their donkey, nobody say's a thing. They don't have to whack their donkey just because the idiot does. I think that is the main reason the activism hasn't quite caught on here. To each his own, there is not the arrogance here to try to tell others how they must live. If Esmeralda want's to raise chickens for eggs and caldo de Gallena and Pepe next door want's to fight his, so what, they are not hurting each other, and will most likely help each other if assistance is required. The too truest statements in the world, God Bless America and Viva La Mexico.

Greg,
That is absolutely insane!!!! Even more insane then trying to ban a two point elephant hook, while overlooking a 6,12, 16 point roweled horse spur, completely disregarding the most severe the one point dressage spur. Just nut's. If Roger Penske or Joe Gibbs hires me to drive their race car, and I bank high on the turn, spin out and smack the wall and turn into a cinder, is it their fault? I knew what a was when I got in it, and took the money to drive it. It's a Go* D**m race car, some win, some crash and burn. That's a "Killer" whale, not a "Spread the Love" whale, not a "Lick Me To Death" whale, but a "Killer" whale. They might live up to their name, they might not. That is their option. Do you want to ride him? No? Next applicant, please. Jesus, take something that simple into the court system...... Nobody holds a gun to their head, nobody forces them to get on the whale. Should folks ride whales? Hell, yes if they want to, and they should get the big bucks. The one's that opt out, step back and don't expect to be on the same pay scale as the one's who chose to ride.
I don't see how the world can keep tanking with all of this feel good nonsense and survive, I really don't. I we ban every think that is dangerous and could cause death or serious injury, can you even began to imagine what would be left. Think about it, what would be left.

Mr. Burck. It is a pleasure for me to read you have enjoyed your stay at my country. I've seen the pictures you've posted in the last days and they are all beautiful. Thank you for using your blog to show them to your readers.
Regarding the taco stands and the shoe vendors, I never thought about it the way you explained it. It seems living here makes you blind to these little details. Thanks for the insight.
G-d bless America, and Viva Mexico!
