Vintage Gulfarium--Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. Oldest Operating Facility of It's Kind In The World

1957 Note my dream car, the 1956 Bel Aire convertible in the foreground. Do you know what that is worth today, speaking of redundant?

1955

Gulfarium project was started in 1954 by Brandy Siebenaler. It was opened on August 15, 1955. Some how this attraction managed to dodge a bullet and is still operating, although it is currently closed until May 2012 according to their publicist, for "improvements to enhance our guest's experience." I wonder if that is human guest's or non-human animal guest's whom will be enhanced? People have often said the easiest job in the world is a pro golfer or a Bass Pro fisherman. I think the easiest job in the world is that of a publicist. Imagine getting paid to be full of shit!!!!!

When you consider the ease of maintaining a place like this within pumping distance of salt water or ease in acquiring food stuffs for the captive's in the early day, appreciate the difficulty an wonder of a land locked facility like Marineland Niagara Falls who has to manufacture all the salt water used in the marine mammal tanks.

KING OF AQUARIA says: "Well, with both Marineland's gone, Auatarium gone and Ocean World gone it's nice to know Gulfarium and Theatre of the Sea are still in operation. I always loved Gulfarium. From the highway it looked like a stranded battleship with its mast. The 'Living Sea' aquarium was the FIRST exhibit of its kind to employ floor to surface viewing windows and seat an audience in front of the aquarium! Why they never sprayed gunite on the interior of the Main Tank is beyond me. It would have saved them a lot of money because that tank went down for repairs more times than the Aquatarium. God Bless Gulfarium!l

Your posting of the Gulfarium photos made The King of Aquaria appreciate that this - the last of the great oceanariums - is still open so I wrote an article about it.
This article (link above) has two porpoises, I mean purposes: to promote the reopening of the 56-year old oceanarium and to honor its' founder, Mr. Brandy Seibenaler. Wade, I am alerting all of the people I worked with at Sea World of your marvelous website. Today they are working in far-flung places like my friend, Vic Aderholt, who is a dolphin trainer at Resort World in Singapore or at zoos around the US.
