Self-made millionaire John Slater created his own nature center on the grounds of his Gulf-front Gordon Drive estate in Naples, Florida. A specially designed saltwater pool was home to sea turtles, seals and dolphins, including television star Flipper's sister, Flash. There were also cheetah, ostrich, kangaroos, etc. kept at the estate.

My grandmother Lois Kerckhoff was friends with Mr. Slater. I have fond memories spending time on his estate watching the animals and I have a picture of me with a deer..
