No zoo exhibit has had the diversity of styles and types then the "monkey island." The tastes and standards have ranged from castles, city halls, log cabins, light houses, villages, boats, and jungle jims with slides and trapeze's, to piles of rubble. Historically these "monkey amusement parks" have been one of the most popular exhibits with the public, particularly children. I know I found them highly entertaining. Amazingly as they became politically incorrect, in an effort at "naturalistic" many of these historic castles and boats have been demolished or abandoned and replaced with Indian temples and temple ruins!!!!!! Go figure........
