Vintage Central Park Zoo
Above is a 1937 color print of a woman, in a leopard skin fur coat and matching hat, standing in front of the leopard cage in the Central Park Zoo, New York City back in the "good old day's" before the world went politically correct simple.
Mrs. Janet McDonald
This is a 1916 halftone print of Mrs. Janet McDonald, one of the world's few women sealers. She supplied the animals to aquaria and zoological gardens. She would give fresh fish to her captured seals. Little by little, she would get the seals to eat dead fish, so it would be easier for the zoos to take care of them.
Does anyone know any more about Mrs. McDonald?
Zoological Advancement--Vintage Central Park Zoo
Today as zoo's are breeding even the difficult elephant, and regularly getting whacked by the various ar groups, it is appropriate to recall the day when the birth and survival of a camel was newsworthy and a big deal.
