Mr. Gorden Cumming's lecture-Riding out the Best Ivory, Shooting from the Saddle Wood Engraving 1855

I read an article long ago, I don't remember where in which Mr. Cumming's described his method of hunting elephants in Africa. He described racing his horse into the fleeing herd and sticking his rifle barrel into the ear of the male's with the largest tusks and firing. He said it normally took 3 shot's with him reloading on the gallop. He described his horse as being a "fearless fellow." Jesus, I can't imagine how "fearless" that horse had to be, or the insane courage it had to have taken to carry out something like this. Crazy!!!!! Speaking of "authenticity" of engravings/wood cuts this sure doesn't look like an African landscape. It looks more like an Ansel Adams photograph of the Grand Tetons.
