For Dave Orr--Dog Purveyor to the Circus

From Dave Orr:

I rememmebr taking a stray dog and giving it to one of Mills people during Winter Quarters days those days..Often wondered did it make it to THE Show...

Dave,
Your question made me curious so I had my crack research team look into it. I think the dog sitting like a lump, doing nothing at the bottom of this pyramid, is the dog you were wondering about. The photo is from 1859, and if I have subtracted right you would have been around 9 years old then. Written on the back in pencil: "this is the act we are going out with this year. Good group of animals, with the exception of the one in the middle that can't even sit up, that I call Dumb David. You may recall the kid who used to hang around winter quarters and pester everybody trying to get them to buy those OABA pins(what are those anyway)? Well, to get him out of my hair, I took the dog off of his hands and bought 20 of those pins. The dog's useless, but at least I could get something done without the kid underfoot." Yes friend Dave, it appears your dog did indeed make the "Big Show."

Mr. Burck, I appreciate your research team of hundreds coming up with all that data..Especially after sixty some years since that trip to Mills Bros.Circus Ohio Winter Quarters. I will personally see that you are mention in my book, "Water for Dogs."

By the way if you could come up with some hat pictures of yourself there might be a chance that you could go into my FACEBOOK "Hat Hall of Fame." Please no ballcap pictures. Mr. Frank Curry was first to go in almost two years ago..

Dave,
My pleasure on the research. It's what I am about, and I am sure there is more where that came from should you provide the lead. LOL Great minds must think alike. When I saw the photo of Frankie, I thought "I wonder why Davie and Dickie haven't founded a pictorial hat museum," and now I see you have. You are right about ballcaps as they are candy ass.
