American Circus Corp. Peru, Ind.--M. D. McCarter--Available for Purchase

Interesting to see Clyde doing "contact."

Am I right in assuming that these were the Polar Bears from Clyde Beatty's first act, which he took over from Pete Taylor, that died at Peru during a freezing winter when they were left outside? The Paul Kelly barn in the background, where the famed White Tiger Tony is reputed to have been born.

Polar bears dying from freezing weather?
Are you serious?

Anonymous,
Serious as a heart attack. That's what the historian's over on the "history channel" claimed happened with Clydes polar bear act, although I am not sure if this is the act they were referencing. There were apparently other Polar Bear act's in Peru on the American Circus Corp.

Wade, this photo was taken at the Peru winter quarters of the American Circus Corporation. This is on the east side of town. This is the Circus Hall of Fame now.

The Paul Kelly farm never had permanent cages outside like this does.

Bobby,
Thank you for the correction. As Paul Kelly had a big, huge barn I just assumed this is the one that eventually became his. Was Paul's on the "west side" of town?

YES, Paul Kelly was on the west side of town. Ironically, his quarters were closer to the rail lines and to a main road. A day late and a dollar short as they say!

Bobby,
Until now, I always thought the Corporation winter quarters and Paul Kelly's winter quarters were one and the same.
