Who was first?

Manual "Junior" "Prince Bogino" Ruffian, who was a cage boy for Clyde Beatty, has always been touted at the "first" black African American wild animal trainer. Does anyone know who that is in the picture above, and what year it was? I was told that this was an act from Mexico so he may not even be African American, but I find it interesting.
