This is bad looking all around, props, arena, lions, etc. etc. The initials RB are on the what ever that board around the seats is called. Any idea's whom this is and what show? Not everything was good about the good old day's, that for sure.

from Jim Stockley: Captain Sydney Howes, animal trainer, born in Birmingham 1910, Died on 3rd September, 1980,aged 70 yrs. For a long time worked lions on Robert Brothers Circus in England. Syd's son, Lion trainer Gordon Howes worked for Chipperfields and was killed during a training session with five lions at a circus rehearsal in Dublin, Ireland 17 Apr 1978. Wade,
Looking at the picture, the trainer/ presenter looks very like 'Captain' Sidney Howes. I know that he worked for some time with Robert Brothers Circus in the UK, which might explain the initials on the ring fence. Just guess work but might prompt more informed feedback.

Jim,
I have never met Michael Howes, but I recall John Cuneo trying to hire him on a couple of occasions back in the early 90's, when John and Jim Clubb were trading trainers like kids trade baseball cards LOL. There was a former Clubb trainer working for Hawthorn at the time, who was working both sides of the Clubb/Cuneo fence in an effort to make it happen. There was also another "effort" made to contract Michael when I was leaving Hawthorn in 2007, but he seems to be very happy with Jim from what I understand.
Do you have any more insight on the incident in 1978 with Michael's father?
