For Steve and Radar--Sunken temples

Above is Jewel and Tina with sunken temples when they first arrived at the zoo after being confiscated, for among other things, starvation. Below are Jewel and Tina with sunken temples one year older, one year later, after allegedly gaining 200 pounds the first month and 1000 pounds the first year. One thousand pounds sounds incredible to most folks, so I want them to see what 1000 pounds looked like on a 10,000 pound animal. I don't have to tell them which one is which, the "sunken temples" are pretty distinctive.

On another blog I have been told that sunken temples are not necessarily an indication of age.

Have you ever seen a young [or youngish] elephant with sunken temples?

The only time I have seen younger elephants with sunken temples were sick and emaciated

So, let's wait and see how long these elephants have left to live.
