IZES 2011 MEETING
SUNDAY MARCH 6TH
BRISTOL ZOO GARDENS
On the above date we return to Bristol Zoo for the above meeting and collectors fair. The day will revolve around the pre-launch of the ‘Illustrated History Of Bristol Zoo’ which myself, Alan Ashby and Christoph Schwitzer have produced to celebrate the zoo’s 175th anniversary this year. This will be the first opportunity to purchase the book and in lieu of IZES discount the participant’s fee will be waived this year (in other words entry to the event and the zoo is F.O.C). In addition there will be a talk about the zoo’s history and previously unseen film (including ‘News From The Zoos’ - an ancient BBC television programme). We are also hoping to include a tour of the zoo which looks at some areas not visited on our last meeting here. The use of tables for the trading/sale/purchase of zoo ephemera will of course be provided and the whole meeting will commence at 10.30 a.m. As ever we hope as many members can attend as possible and we apologise for the short(ish) notice - 2010 was a VERY busy year! See you there then!
Tim Brown – Chairman
Independent Zoo Enthusiasts Society,
Photos from 1960. This had to have been one of the last existing "Victorian style" bear pits left in England. Does anyone know if that is the case?
