Ghost Zoo--Belle Vue, Manchester England

Photo above, 1958

This fabulous clip has a photo of "Vinicky" with his horse sitting on an elephant that is laying down. Is "Vinicky" the great Tony Smaha, Sr. of the Smaha Lipizzan fame, and father of Yenda Smaha of the Nugget Casino Bertha and Tina fame? If it is, this great trainer gave me some valuable advice in 1974 in regards to my first elephant act, Clyde Bros. Mary, Sue, and Margie, whom he had originally trained when they were babies. If so, wow, how lucky was I????

The Vinicky may have been Tony Sr.'s brother Joszi who also appeared in England. You're correct that Tony Smaha Sr. was a fine trainer and a kind man. He gave me some good advice when I started working with sea lions. "Jimmy, remember where their head is." Think about where you might get bit.
