According to the eyewitness,the calf with severe injury was abandoned by the herd and was loitering alone with a painful body in the swampy area of a village. Seeing the calf at such a condition, the group of villagers soon attacked the calf with sharp weapons like knife, axe bamboo etc. sticks and beaten it unto death. Experiencing such kind of strange behaviour and to safe its life the elephant calf tried to run away to safer places but the senseless and brutal mob of the village chased it and at last killed the innocent animal for no reason.
These clips are all over the net. I am sorry, but I don't see in any of the clips where the calf was "beaten to death." I see villagers trying to restrain the calf, by the only means available to them, in an effort to help it, not having an available crush, tranquilizers, or other means of containment. I think it is something for the ar/bleeding hearts to jump onto and nothing more. It doesn't matter if they are captive, free, in a sanctuary, in the circus, or in the zoo, there is not a missed opportunity to exploit for their cause the plight of Dumbo. More troubling to me, is that the herd "abandoned" the calf. That doesn't sound at all like the rescues and saving of herd members and dying of a broken heart at the loss of an offspring that have been reported so glowingly and reverently to us down here on planet earth. What's up with that? Do they rescue or do they abandon? PTS or just a pre dispositon to being a hard ass?

You didn't see the calf beaten to death. The video was 2 minutes long. Did it die from what you saw in the video? Obviously there was more that killed it than two minutes of trying to hold it with a rope. Did the video show how it happened to get two holes in it's gut? Maybe since you know more than the news story, tell us how DID the elephant die?

There you go, that's the response we were expecting. Answer a question, with a question. That's basic ar 101. No, I don't see anything that looks like a beating in this video, no matter how long it it is or isn't. Was it cut and censored so that it would be easy to convince simple folk that it was a beating. That steers us clear of asking why the herd abandoned the calf instead of rescuing it, as they are "reported" for doing, doesn't it.
The holes in it's stomach were quite small, and most likely not life threatening, unless they had become septic. All likelihood they occurred some time before this incident occurred, possibly from a sharp object, such as a tree stump, branch, or even a rock given the location of the wound. But then again, maybe a "savage" laid on his back and as the other "savages" chased the calf over him, he stabbed it in the belly with his knife. Your damn right there was a lot more that killed it, then the few minutes of footage, so don't but a lonely animal rights spin on an unfortunate incident. Save your good stuff for the rallies. You all need it, you are losing steam.
