Looks like one of those things guards used to prove they were in a certain spot at a certain time while doing their rounds. Dennis
I wonder if it's one of those devices that watchmen used to carry. At each area they were supposed to stop and insert a key, which registered in the device as proof they had made their required rounds. The supervisor could later read the device to make sure the watchmen weren't sleeping on the job. Or, maybe not...
I have seen a similar device used by night securirty people to monitor their movement from one check point to another...similar to a time clock.

Everyone's correct. They were still using them at LPZ in 1962. The clocks have a circular paper that recorded when and where the night keeper was.
I used to wear one of these punch clocks when I worked as an overnight security guard at John Abbot College 30 years ago. Sincerely Paul
