Herpetological Review 41 (3) 2010

HR_Sep_2010_p266_281.pdf

This is a great article addressing the "good old days" with some great vintage animal dealer pricelists. In the past I touched briefly with Jim Alexander, Ben Trumble, and Richard Reynolds about how many people who have been involved with animals their whole life initially got their appetite "wetted" as children and young men and women, by the fur farms that used to sell pet racoons, etc. and the "tea cup" monkeys that you could purchase for 19.95 in the back of comic books. I think it would be an interesting work to find out about the impact it had on later great works a lot of those folks have done in the world of animal husbandry and conservation.

For the folks who are worried that Water for Elephants' will not portray the old time circus accurately, they should be happy if it doesn't
