Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

To be fair, the head to tail waltz is what Col. Herriott would refer to as a "salad." Either it is a new behavior in the act, or the "studs were just being studdy" this particular day.

This was the act as conceived, staged and presented by Fredy Knie sen. during the 1983 season, with the help of Mr.Sacha Houcke. Mr.Knie presented it in the ring in alternance with Mr.Houcke. The video is taken during the winter season at Deutschlandhalle in Berlin, while Fredy was in Amsterdam's Carré with a different act.
That's why I think liberty acts look best with a maximum of 8 horses - it can get crowded looking during some things like the waltz.

Thanks for the info. I am wondering if these may be, or at least some of them, the ones in an earlier video that were worked without harness. Some of them were a "bit long in the tooth", particularly the hind leg horses.

Now we know why the waltz was a "salad". Folks alternating working it will do that every time, also there may have been newer horses. We don't know. But what I do know is 12 is more impressive, and can be made to look just as smooth as 8 or 6 or even 4. A head to tail waltz with 12 takes less room then 8 as a single waltz.
