Wade - Yes, carriage horses. The first Friesians I ever saw were carriage horses at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto many years ago.

Jeannie,
They are still carriage horses, regardless of the paper Madame Col. hangs for them. I have blisters on my pinky fingers to prove it. For the first time in my life, I have to wear candy ass riding gloves. You don't build up callouses riding soft Arabians. I am always so careful not to bruise their sensitive bar's. In the case of Guapo, my black monster, I am accepting that bruising it is just a matter of self defense. I didn't realize it before, but as many years as Madame Col. has been holding those thugs straight and forward, I promise she could beat me in an arm wrestling contest.

Here's the secret....never go one step forward if they hang on you. Go circles, do sharp halts, never, never a step if hanging in your hands. Don't expect to go far at first he has to learn and you never, never can give in. If you are in a hurry and expect to go one time around the arena the first day, get another breed, if you expect to trot the first day, go on a pony ride. Cantor? Prepare to start all over even after you have him carrying himself in a trot. It's not for someone who doesn't think it can't be done, I do it with all of mine and they meet Mother Teresa's alter ego if they touch me after they are broke. Makes a nicely mannered light, fancy riding horse after a year. Pick a pretty one that you enjoy looking at because he is going to try your patience ten fold.LOL

I'm glad I finally had the time to watch the videos. I love the appearance of Friesians. I, in my very limited knowledge of the equine world, imagined them as a "dancing" breed. Congratulations to the Madame Col. Rossi on a beautiful, in my eye, accomplishment.
