A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

I wonder if that's the reason that members of the public are rarely targeted in elephant attacks (I don't mean the random beserk stuff like the Indian video). It always seems to be the handlers or trainers. Could it be that elephants specifically go after the person that has caused them grief in the past?
Anonymous,
They go after what ever is closest, and they have lost their fear of. Normally that is the handler or trainer. They also go after the closest animal to them, known as an action displacement. You are guessing like Mr. Chow Mein did.

Wade - why "For LAD"??? lol
Actually these monkeys look like they are just trying to protect their trainer who is obviously a valued family member!
Steve,
You may be right. More like a "father figure" to his "children." LOL Why for LAD? Because it will give him a "what about Mr. Chow Mein diversionary rock" to throw in the bushes behind someone, that's why.
