A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

I am pretty sure this is 1932. Bostock and Wombwelle's closed in Newcastle in 1931 and then went to the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow, for the Christmas season. I am pretty sure these two elephants are Dixie, the large one, which was sold to Whipsnade Zoo, and Rosie, the small one, which went to Oxford Zoo, until its closure in 1937, and then went onto Bristol Zoo. Dixie died in 1962. I remember seeing her there, as she was the main ride elephant at that time. I think Rosie lived on until 1970s, but cannot be sure without checking my records.
