Peter Purves, Valerie Singleton and John Noakes with Indian elephants in 1968, on the BBC Blue Peter TV show.
John Cooper, Is a blue peter the same thing as a spotted dick, or are they different?" Who is "handling" the elephants in this photo? Is it the person barely visible on the left?

These elephants belong to Sir Robert Fossett's. The trainer is on the far left. His name was Julius Heine. He had previously worked for Knie and Enis Togni. He was a very good trainer. The act eventually contained 10 elephants, but usually worked as six. This was in the very early days when they had only just got the first three.
- Jim Clubb
The Blue Peter is the name given to the flag traditionally flown on a ship before it sails.
Unless I'm very much mistaken, this elephant dragged John Noakes all over the place, and also "disgraced" itself on the studio floor - during a live broadcast!
I'm very much mistaken! The elephant which disgraced itself live on "Blue Peter" was from a zoo.
Blame my age. It leads me to suffer from seniormomentitis!
John,
I was staying out of it. I just thought you were trying to kick it off with Clubb. LOL
