A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Wade, did old exhibits like this where elephants could reach the public ever end in bad scenarios?
Radar,
You would assume so, which is why it changed. Yet I don't recall ever hearing about an elephant incident with the public. It historically has tended to be felines, bears, or primates.

I think this may be the now extinct Hambug zoo which predated Hagenbeck's place.
Richard,
Not that Hagenbecks was not a fabulous zoo, but I have often wondered, how much of it's success was a matter of being in the right place, at the right time.
