For Chic Silber

Charly never had straight leg props on Ringling Wade

Yes, he did Chic. As did GGW, Ursula, and most others, and I used them. And there was a reason. Economics. The pyramid pedestals were different in the acts, and the smaller, extra pyramid pedestals, were often used as a seat for an extra animal when not in use.

Boy oh boy

Not only do I stand corrected

but scared that this is a sign

of the beginning of the end

Wow sure didn't remember that

Chic,
Nothing to worry about Chic, and you have looked at your own pictures. Looked but didn't see, as we have all listened but didn't hear. 9 out of 10 people, upon meeting GGW for the first time, would state "I didn't realize he was that short." That's because 9 out of 10 people watched GGW, and not the surroundings or the animals, and GGW projected "bigger then life". I studied both Charly and GGW very extensively, live and on video, because they were the best at what I wanted to do, and that's a no brainier to emulate. I didn't watch what they did, but instead watched what the animals did, which then showed/taught me what they did. And I didn't by into much "publicist" malarkey. The greatest was I had no "circus history," or preconceived biased. I had heard of, knew of, or read of nobody. I could be impressed or not impressed, in it's purest, simplest form.

I realize that my mind was so

focused on the movable pedestals

that I totally forgot the seats

Chic,
FYI one of the first commands Boss taught me when I presented his tigers was:
Sehr gut, mein schönes kind. When the shit hit the fan later in the day, I went straight away to the comfort of English, and they became bi-lingual in about 5 days. Except Rambo. I told him what ever he wanted to hear. LOL

I think Charly originally had seats that hung on the arena with chromed legs on front. In 1964 he used the old section arena so you could hang props from it. They were as nice as the pyramid pedestals, you could use them for living room furniture. When the woven wire arena was used they went to the pedestals in the photo. They worked, just not as attractive.

Thanks Jim

I only met Charly in 65 (which

I thought was his 1st year here)

Obviously I didn't pay as much

attention to the details then

as I thought

Wade in regards to another item

mentioned Wolfgang Holzmair's

lion act (especially when they

loaded the cats while Pio was

still working above the arena)

was without a doubt my very

favorite act of it's kind

My favorite mixed acts were

Clyde Beatty & Jean Charles

Very different but exceptional

The seats for both Charly and Jewells cats had straight legs to the ringcurb side and slanded legs to the center. Is this the question y'all are talking about?
