Circus Richter

Production number introducing the Courier of St. Petersburg act. This is not a once a year phony festival folks. This is a regular stop on Richter's summer tour at Lake Ballaton. Imagine the animal production and acts seen here in one show. 25 years ago when somebody made the false statement that the best circus's are in Europe, I would get upset, because it wasn't valid. Now when that statement is made, I have to be honest and admit show's like Knie, Casartelli, Togni, Krone, and Hungarian Circus Richter sure present a very valid argument to the truth of that statement. We sure lost ground, and thank God for Ringling Bros. that we are still "kinda" in the game.

We had a troupe of Richters on

the Monte Carlo traveling show

that did several turns very well

They must have been related to

these folks somehow

Chic,
That was Florian's mother and father who did the teeter board to their elephant.

They had a small rotating pedestal

and they brought a tranformer to

be able to operate on our 120v

but the difference in frequency

(50 cps vs 60 cps) burnt out the

underpowered motor and I recall

an urgent hunt for a replacement

motor that would fit the tiny

enclosure (they were very nice

and grateful folks)

Why is it that in the pictures I see on your website, the circuses in Europe look so clean, the animals look clean, the costumes look clean and the performers are well groomed. I've gone to a few circuses here and mostly it looks pretty shabby and the performers, I'm sorry to say, look like fat slobs with bad haircuts and ugly costumes. I haven't seen Ringling brothers circus, so maybe that is better, but those I have seen are pretty much just junk. How come this is the way it is? I don't mean any offense if there are American circus people reading this, but you have to admit I have a point.

Great circus people these Hungarians, Richters, Donnerts, etc. Certainly they are superior to our American circuses including the nonexistant ring curbs with RBBB. Its amazing that these Cheval shoes [really horse themed circuses in a ring and or hippodrome track] are so popular. Too bad that lack of places to go has caused such a decline in the equestrian arts here in Americaa. Its a shame when thet get too cheap to buy Homosote. Horses have always been the backbone of the circus from its beginning and thank God Europe in keeping that tradition alive and ,Yes, selling tickets to see it. Too bad for America, but when can we expect when musicale groups perform in grubby T shirts, torn pants and unkempt personal appearance. Is that Showbiz? I hope not.

Wade,
Just looking back in the archives to see what I have missed and am so glad I did. This is absolutely stunning. Reminds me of Cinderella.
