Is this book going to explain where the 30 baby elephants Carson bought back then are today?

The book covers the period from 1976 to 1993. Those punks of course are now fully grown and spread all across the country. I will see three of them when I visit Kelly-Miller at the show in Milwaukee next week. Regards, Dennis 'Dion' Younger

Dion,
I think the question was the same one that folks have asked about many times over the past 10 years. Of the over 40 baby elephants that were on the show in the mid 70's, HOW MANY OF THEM are now fully grown and spread all across the country?

Wade. I'm not sure of what the highest number owned was in the 70's. I believe near 35. I do know that D.R. told me he was striving to have 50. It didn't happen before his death in 1999.

As far as I can deduce, all grew to maturity. That is, no losses.
Of the big three, Barbara,Kay and Suzy, the first two have passed on and I can not find any info on Suzy. I have asked on every blog on the net with only one suggesting she is on Coney Island right now. How could this be? She would not be with the Ringling herd and clearly would be very matronly by now. Where is and what happened to Suzy?

Dion,
They had 51 in 1975 when I went to get Obert, Kelly, and Tracy. 3 large cow's, a young African named Paula, and all the rest, males and females, were under the age of 6.

Thanks for setting the record straight. I honestly thought he never achieved 50.
Anyhow, my book doesn't contain a lot of facts and figures. It is mainly a personal account of what life was like during those years on the road and in Hugo. I only wrote about what I know to be a fact.

Suzy is at Coney Island in Ramon Esqueda's act, which is owned by the Miller Equipment Company (C&B). I am not sure of the names of the other two that are there. The only reason I know that Suzy is there is that they announced her name on opening day when Mayor Mike Bloomberg made the opening remarks with Mr. Feld. I will be seeing the show tomorrow night and will tell you the other two names.

I'll bet the Suzy at Coney Island is a different Suzy. In the mid 80's, Suzy of the "Kay, Barbara and Suzy" herd was replaced by Minnie. Suzy only did rides after that. Then she stayed in winter quarters in Hugo, then she died. Pretty sure.

I kind of go along with that assesment also. Suzy would just be too old to perform today.
She was truly a trouper. Must have really missed Barbra and Kay when they passed, as they had been together so many years doing the act and pulling trucks through the mud. Rest in peace Suzy.
