Chipperfield's Electric Theatre

My great-grandfather, James W Francis Chipperfield (1849/1917) showed films in a circus tent around 1899 and his son (my grandfather) Richard Chipperfield (1875/1959) had one of the first travelling cinemas (Electrograph) in England around 1909. Here is a picture of his Burrell No.2281 "Queen of the Midlands" pulling the trailers of his 'Electric Theatre' .

Our family owned three Burrell Showman's engines at various times, No.1470 "Pride of the South
(built 1890), No.2281 "Queen of the Midlands" (built 1900) and No.2984 name unknown (built 1908).

I can't even imagine living in such primitive times. It is so amazing ,to me, how our way of being entertained has evolved over time.
