In an effort to not use a traditional whip or other tools because the "public may perceive it wrong" the animals are put a great risk. As is the public when elephants are presented with a "voice command alone." In this case Taba, did a great and admirable job of breaking up and controlling the situation. Had it been more serious, an animal may have been seriously injured or even killed, because of the use of a whip for training horses, and a small not too effective stick. Again, a trainer contracted to work an act, has a lot less options of what animals to use, then the individual who owns his own act, and can decide what animals to use. A "house act" trainer will usually need greater skills given that disadvantage. So as not to sterotype a "training fork" as a "European inovation", note the fork come in at 1:o7. Young trainers, note what happens when a scared animal starts running blindly to escape the fury, and becomes a target for the other animals in the act. As I have told many young trainers when introducing a new animal, that new animal is your priority, and you had better make sure that the older seasoned animal are respectful of you, because it will be up to you to protect the new one from harm so that it gains the confidence it needs to be a seasoned performer.
